| Fitness Bucks Auction
Being active and taking part in activities that promote physical fitness paid off in March for Randolph Academy students.
The "Fitness Bucks" program took place and culminated in the first week in April with a "Fitness Buck" auction. Students who participated and earned the most bucks were able to cash them in for prizes of all sorts, including scooters and other sports equipment. Two active young people who walked away with new bicycles.
Students were able to earn one fitness buck for every 10 minutes of activity he or she completed. Activity for this event was defined as anything that involves movement, including walking, stretching, running, gym activities, skiing, swimming, aerobics, dancing, shoveling, etc.
The fitness bucks could be earned during school as well as after school. Outside of school, students had to bring in a note signed by their unit staff, parent or guardian stating what activity was done by the particular young person, and the length of time it was done for. The students then turned their notes into their first period teachers.
During school hours, Randolph Academy's physical education teachers kept track of any bucks earned by students and reported them to the students' first period teachers at the end of March.
The "Fitness Bucks" program was developed by Mrs. Liskow with a grant Randolph Academy received for Healthy Rewards from Cornell Cooperative Extension.
