“Warm days and cold nights, that’s the kind of weather that is good for making syrup!” stated Nick, an eleventh grade student at Randolph Academy as he spoke to his young visitors. On a sunny day in early March, Mrs. Griffith’s second grade class from Randolph Central’s Gail Chapman Elementary School took a walking field trip to see maple syrup production in action. The sugar shack, operated by students at Randolph Academy, produces 40-50 gallons of syrup each year. As a part of their study of Plant Life, the students take time away from the science classroom for a hand on project gathering maple sap from a sugar bush on the hill behind the school.
